Yesterday I flew home from spending 2 beautiful weeks with my Dutch boyfriend in Amsterdam (for the holidays). I was feeling all wiggy from the jetlag, and from being separated from the person I love the most in the world, and somehow in my “out-of-itness” I relapsed into a horrible fit of face-picking (I recently kicked this awful habit, which had plagued me for 12 years or more). I totally destroyed my face.

I instantly regretted it once I took a second to pause, step away from the mirror and see the big picture of what I’d done to myself. I went from being relatively clear-skinned (just minor blemishes that go away after they run their course) to enormous red marks, and places where I even broke through to blood (I haven’t done it that bad for years). After going for about 3 or 4 months with NO picking at all, this was extremely bad and I was desperately trying to find affirmations I could write on my mirror to prevent this from happening again. I came up with a few good ones, but when I read #3 on your “8 Things” list today I started crying, because that’s what it really comes down to for me- believing I deserve to be beautiful, that beauty is something I am allowed to strive for. “Beauty is a worthy cause.”

I just wanted to open up about this because it meant a LOT to me to read this today, it was good timing, so thank you.

(sorry, I misquoted- “Beauty is a worthy value.”

Felt an instant need to correct myself because it is so much better with the word “value.”)

i posted a very similar post yesterday, although not as eloquent as you-
i came by way of Jen Lemon’s blog.
I believe in loving our lives, the happy, the sad, the anger the ugly parts and the possibility of forgiveness and redemption.

Love these, makes me want to steal your words and cut and paste…makes me feel wounded and strong and powerful at the same time. Thanks!
