Saturday Housekeeping

Hello Loves,

There’s a lot going on over here, and even now I hear the sound of my hubby vacuuming —unbidden!— downstairs. While he does the IRL housekeeping I’ll do the virtual stuff. Here’s what’s going on today in Magpie Girl world.

Are you coming on the Soulsister’s ’09 Retreat? Do you wish you were? Do you want to form your own tribe of soulsisters (or soulsiblings?) Follow our progress and learn our hopes here.

Fun & Helpful Twitter Play-a-Longs
Do you Tweet? So do I!  I’m starting some fun new trends on Twitter.

  • #gigglepics: photos to cheer you up or soothe your soul via TwitPic.
  • #dailywhimsy: cheeky little tweets about the playful things we do to embrace whimsy.
  • #dreamboards: do you dreamboard? share your results using links to your blog, Flickr, or Twitpic.
  • #soulsisters: for those of us attending the first retreat and dreaming or forming the next one.
  • #doless:join The DO LESS Revolution and learn to do what Leo Babatua calls “the fine art of choosing the essentials,” and achieve what I call “concentrated living.” (Plus, just feel better!)
  • #soultribes: follow the “How to Build Your Soultribe” series and share ideas and plans with others.
  • #*8Things: to share your weekly *8Things and see what others come up with. (It’s fascinating)

Wreck this Journal
Over at Starshyne Productions, my soulsister Jamie Ridler offers The Next Chapter — virtual book clubs for the arty at heart. Right now she’s encouraging us to make a mess with Keri Smith’s   Wreck this Journal. Eden, Cate and I started wrecking ours two summers ago. But I’m working on finishing the demo now. Here’s my page for this week. The instructions were “cover this page with white things.” It’s doubling as this month’sdreamboard. My theme for the month is “be still. be now.”

Hope you all have a wonderful Saturday. Don’t do too much housekeeping…go outside and do something whimsical!

FUN and gr8 idea for the white things page to be your dreamboard, too!! Lovely…

So you know, I tweet, too. And I’ve seen things like #friday favs or something, but I don’t get what the # thing is?? So if I do a dreamboard and then tweet with #dreamboards and a link to my image, does that do something? Just if you have time/energy to explain…

Happy Wrecking — will be fun to see what we all wreck this summer :)

I’m new to those #things too. They are called hashtags. People can follow them, and see anyone post that has that tag in it.

This is how I use it:

I use TweetDeck to organize my tweeps. @artizencoaching just told me to click on the magnifying glass icon at the top, put in the hashtag I want to follow, and that creates a column that shows tweet posts with that hashtag. So right now I’m looking at the #wtj column and it’s showing me tweets with links or pics of everyone’s journal page for this week. (Well, everyone who’s tweeted thiers.)

I think you might also need to follow @hashtags. And if you don’t use TweetDeck, there is a webpage where you can look at everyone who’s using #wtj (for intance.) I haven’t used it yet but its

One more thing, if your updates are protected you can use hashtags, but only people who you’ve approved as followers will be able to see them.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the demo of your Wreck this Journal. For some reason, I have no idea what to do with this book. You’d think it wouldn’t be hard, but it’s confusing me.

Love the white page!

Beautiful, beautiful!! I sat here and really enjoyed just looking at your page. What a beautiful page of white things!

And who knew # could bring us together? I’m going to enjoy all those shiny Magpie treats.

There’s lots of ideas at Keri’s Flickr group…but don’t go over there if you tend to over-do things. Some of the peeps there have forgotten thier fast and dirty training!

And here’s a couple things the girls and I did with ours already:

What Cate did at the ocean:

It’s like permission to play with your childhood toys again. Have fun!

Hey Rachelle,

As a fairly new ipod-user (thanks a & l), I think I put music on it once….before I became utterly and hopelessly lost to The Podcast. My favorite–until about 20 minutes ago–is Terry Gross’s Fresh Air, oh her shy giggle, smart questions, and encouraging “hmms”.

This morning, though, for some reason the deep recesses of my brain kicked in and kindly told me, “i think rachelle has a podcast too, you idiot.” I mean when I remembered, I then saw it everywhere (a lot of my life is spend blissfully forgetting important facts only to have them rush at me like ninja) Clickity clack and BAM! I have you talking in my earbuds. And it is a happy happy thing.

melba June 8, 2009 at 10:28 pm

Love your dreamboard page and how you combined it into wreck this journal!

WRO June 10, 2009 at 8:19 pm

WOw ~ how beautiful your page looks (um, compared to my first page upon opening the book). And I just joined Jamie’s Dreamboard workshop, live yet, seeing as I live in her vicinity! It’s just all around AWESOME (as Jamie wouls say!)

Wreck it,
Wild Roaming One (WRO)
