*8Things: Warning Signs

Today at *8Things I’m thinking about all the little clues I carry around that show me when I’m not standing in my own power. If any of these show up, it’s a sure sign that I need to stand a little stronger. I use them as a warning sign to help me clue in and change my approach.

*8Things: Warning Sign

1. Saying “Whatever” too often.
2. Sighing and saying,  “You just decide,” when in a disagreement about plans.
3.  Not sending back a coffee  that’s not what I ordered, or a meal that’s not prepared well.
4. Not asking for a discount when I know it’s standard business practice to give the deal if asked for. (Like at a car rental place.)
5. Feeling generally resentful. (A good sign that I’m not standing in my own power somewhere.) 
6. Rampant jealousy. (This often indicates that i’m not doing what I truly want to do — a weak power stance.)
7. Letting people cut in line in front of me/not speaking up about rude behavior.
8. Feeling regretful of my decisions.

Wow, this is an amazing tool. I am so grateful to you for sharing it. I think considering my warning signs is going to be really powerful in determining where/when I tend to leak energy!

OK, here are mine:
1. The word “should” cropping up a lot
2. Beating myself up for things I haven’t done
3. Telling myself I’m stupid.
4. Being really judgemental about others, especially their appearance
5. Vegging out in front of the TV or playing computer games
6. Feeling loads of contempt boiling inside me – for myself and others
7. Convincing myself there’s nothing I can do about it, whatever “it” might be
8. Stuffing myself with food (that could be number 9 and 10 as well)

Oh…”Should”…that’s one of mine too! Thanks for reminding me.

The TV thing is a tough one for me. Sometimes it’s relaxation, sometimes it’s avoidance. I can’t always tell the difference.

Its so easy to slip into a period of self hurt isn’t it? It’s also so easy to let your hurt affect others, especially other women I find. We are so hard on ourselves!
