Small is Powerful: Closing Blessing

I started the Small is Powerful  series as a lark. They say “You only preach the sermons you need to hear.”  Apparently, I need to hear someone whisper “small is powerful” on endless repeat. Little did I know so many of my Magpie Girl readers would need that message too!

Turns out:

  • There is a lot out there about passion, but little about sustainability.
  • There are many coaches saying “go big or go home,” but not many saying “live small, welcome home.”
  • There are plenty of inspiring stories about big achievers, but few whispered tales about all the small things you do that change lives.

When I started this series I wasn’t planning to offer anything for sale around it. But after seeing the response, I’ve decided to open up a small number of coaching spaces–in case you need to brainstorm about how you can live powerfully within your limitations.

I so believe in living small. It is good to have grand ambitions, I suppose, but we can get so caught up in more more more bigger bigger bigger that we don’t appreciate what we have.

However, I must admit, that in dreaming small, sometimes my life gets so small and constrained that there is no freedom and room to stretch. I think I actually need to be a little bit more expansive in my dreams.

Ah, Rowena! You are singing my song here! What you are noticing is that your dreams aren’t right-fit for. They’ve become too small. They are pinching around your middle.

Time to size up as you grow up!

Living Small is so often equated with Living Scared. When I talk about small and powerful living, what I’m asking my readers to persue is really “right-fit.” There’s so much out there for people who like BIG dreams that we can forget it’s okay to be a size small (or medium, or large) — so long as it’s right fit for y.o.u.

I can’t wait to learn more about your expansiveness!

When I was a realtor, all of the seminars for realtors espoused the “mega-agent” philosophy: focus on getting more listings and more buyers, grow a huge business, hire sub-agents and admins to support your empire.

There was an unquestioned assumption that “bigger was better”, and that a large business was every realtor’s goal. Although I did a couple of transactions a month (not a bad living), I felt pressure to grow my business. I started advertising and hired part-time admin help.

One day, reflecting on my previous life as a restaurant owner, I realized how much I didn’t enjoy managing people. I realized that I was following a path that would lead to me to have less contact with my clients and less control over my transactions, while spending more time “managing” those required to run a bigger business. Ugh!

I cancelled the advertising and declared my business a “boutique” business, where I would ONLY do a limited number of transactions so that I could provide excellent service. My business flourished, in a small, very steady, and sustainable fashion, and I was a happier person to have released myself from the pressure of “big.”

Now, as a spiritual wealth coach, I’m having the opposite realization. I don’t want to coach a small batch of clients one-on-one; I want to reach a much larger audience and “change the world” (with a variety of “right-sized” products and programs for every budget.)
